a: Botox is a botulinum toxin that temporarily paralyses the intended muscle to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. There are multiple brands out there such as Dysport, Xeomin, Daxify, Juveau, and of course the well-known toxin is "Botox." People refer to neurotoxin as Botox because it's been around the longest and was the first neurotoxin to be used both therapeutically and cosmetically. They all work by blocking acetycholine, preventing muscle contractions in areas such as forehead, between the brows, around the outer corners of the eyes, and other off label treatments to improve skin quality.

Dermal filler is an injectable gel-like hyaluronic acid substance that helps restore volume loss. Smoothing out fine lines/wrinkles and helps contour and balance the face. It can be used in the lips, cheeks, jawline, chin, temples, and ears. Depending on the type of filler used, results can vary.

a: Botox can last anywhere from 3 to 6 months depending on the dose and type of neurotoxin used.

a: No, The results of neurotoxin varies, again, based on type of neurotoxin used.

i: Botox will kick in 7 days after treatment

ii: Dysport will start to kick in on day 3 to 4

iii: But with all types of neurotoxins, we tell patients that the results are not 100% accurate until two weeks post treatment because at week one, neurotoxin is at its peak so they will feel like they are frozen and cannot make any facial expressions.

a: Botox is suitable for adults with prominent lines, I tell them you will know it's time for you to start your Botox journey when your expression lines start to bother you and make you seem older. I don't recommend preventative Botox because it could cause muscle weakness and or asymmetry before you have signs of aging. Of course, Botox is one of the many treatments we don't recommend to pregnant or breastfeeding women (because there isn't enough data to show otherwise). People with neuromuscular disorders, people with a history of allergic reactions to neurotoxins, bleeding disorders, people who are on blood thinning medications and or severe skin concerns can sometimes be a reason for them to not be a candidate.

a: No strenuous activity for 12 hours.

b: Avoid saunas and hot tubs for 48 hours

c: Do not touch and or rub treated area for 4 to 6 hours

d: No makeup for 12 hours

e: Avoid extended sun exposure for 24 hours

f: No hats, caps, beanies, headband or anything that will be applying pressure to treated area
